After a nicely composed solo debut album, Jaehyun is coming back once more with the heat in his new single ‘Unconditional’. Jaehyun’s ‘J’ album came out on August 26, 2024, and received much acclaim by fans as well as the charts. His album is KMCA certified platinum, and he peaked number 18 in US Top Albums Sales (Billboard). On top of his album successes, he’s also been making music and traveling the world with his group, NCT 127, and also promoting his debut movie ‘6시간 후 너는 죽는다’. Needless to say, Jaehyun’s had a very busy year, but he wasn’t ready to slow down just yet. 

The song:

The song is said to be an R&B pop track with lyrical and composition involvement from Jaehyun himself. The song makes use of funk inspiration and variation in melody with a pretty consistent heavy beat. I’d say the lyrics make use of AAVE and basically are showcasing a nonchalant attitude towards the outside world. In the song he repeats how “she deserves to be loved with no limit out loud” and makes sure to prove that she’s “my baby” and is more than enough and ultimately is “mine.” He is grateful for her and the love for her is “unconditional.”

I’d say the song is pretty catchy and paired with the music video, it’s fun. I like how Jaehyun stays in his R&B realm which he seems to enjoy, and it fits his vocals well. I noticed that one of the writers on this song also wrote on his album and I could see this fitting in the album to be honest. I think the song is definitely a great song that fans will repeat the words to, and for the English-speaking fans, the song is fully in English so they can sing along.
