So, one day I was looking through the algorithm for the day and there it was. 25SS KWAKHYUNJOO COLLECTION. A Seoul Fashion Week show. You know I had to watch it. I have not heard of this brand before, so I went in with an open mind and open heart. I am a sucker for fashion, so this already piqued my interest. It was called ‘LOOK AT THE TREAD’. The show by Hyun Joo Kwak debuted September 7, 2024.
Disclaimer: I am not really versed in the terminology in the fashion world. I apologize in advance for that. I am only a fashion enthusiast and enjoy watching these things! So, with that being said, I will analyze it from that perspective. Also, I know I am A little (a lot) late on this, but hey…I wanted to take the time to rewatch it. And now it’s the season to wear them, right? Okay let’s get into the show!
The title of it is very interesting right? It made you wonder what to expect. The set was vibrant and gave off desert vibes. I really enjoyed the runway design. We have to talk briefly about music. I mean who would we be if we didn’t talk about it right? Very iconic, very fitting for the show. It left a lot of space for the models to be free. I can definitely see people taking the strut route or the laid-back form of a runway walk. I love the upbeat bouncy tempo it had. And it really made me want to walk too. And it also really fit the theme of looking at the tread!
We also have to talk stars who were there as well. I’m sure there were many celebrities there that you may recognize, however, I am not well versed in them yet so please excuse me. I saw Jenny Park modeling at the show. I could tell instantly as she has a specific personality that transfers through different platforms you see her.
As for audience members/guests, I later discovered Yunho of Ateez attended the show. I saw him post, but I didn’t realize it was the show I was watching until later. The clothing looked amazing on Yunho’s tall figure. I think with that style of clothing, confidence radiated with it. I also saw highlights of him with the paparazzi and he was so polite greeting and thanking everyone he can see. That left another positive note in my mind about him. I also saw SinB, Eunha, and Umji (GFRIEND & VIVIZ). Also, Bada (S.E.S.), Wyatt (ONF), and Na Camden and Brian (AMPERS&ONE) were there. Everyone looked fantastic. And it was nice seeing them all enjoy the show and have a good time!
Clothing styles were versatile and very interesting. There is so much to talk about, but I will keep it brief. Interesting because there were a lot of looks. Versatile because there was a good mix of it all. I saw some clothes that would lean towards streetwear, everyday basics, and some that would fall under the softcore era category. Also, it had some muted colors as well as some really bright colors. I really enjoyed seeing it all as this can be a brand where you can explore many options.
However, this might also be a con for you if you prefer a brand to be tied down to one thing. In my opinion, I really like seeing a variety that still held the integrity of the brand’s story they were trying to tell for the upcoming seasons. I was also curious to keep looking at all the looks. Hyun Joo Kwak and everyone involved did great with styling and direction of the show.
So, what was the story? To be honest with you, I wouldn’t be able to tell you exactly from watching the show. I think the complex nature made me even more entertained with it. According to InStyle ASIA, it was actually based on the director’s daily life. If someone from KWAKHYUNJOO COLLECTION would like you to fill us in, I would love to interview you! Don’t be afraid to reach out!
I have to say what made me most excited is the color choices. The more muted and natural color pallets are nice but can be used all the time without judgement. Side note: You should wear whatever you want to wear no matter what the season. I am just saying this because there are certain clothes that scream certain seasons.
I think the bright colors really made me ready for the warmer weather. There is a lot to explore this upcoming spring and summer. I really suggest checking it out!
What really held the weight was the ending for me. And I think it was the same for many as this was highlighted on their page on Instagram. Like I mentioned before, there was some color and some basic muted colors. At the end it came out so well next to one another. There was a lot of black, white, and beige, then colors started blooming, then white again and finally we got Hyun Joo Kwak in a nice vivid purple dress. And she looked so happy to be there, I loved every moment of it!
The thing that stuck with me and made me want to write this article was what everyone had on. It was the butterflies on the mouth. I’m curious about what they represent. Any thoughts on it? I really, really liked it. Thought it might be symbolism for something. I’m not sure what though, but the fact all of the models (even the ones who didn’t have it) on had it after was what made me wonder. I think the butterflies paired well with the outfits too! So, I hope when purchased some people will pair it with the butterflies (especially for editorials).
Have you seen the show? If you haven’t, I recommend checking it out! Please have an amazing day and if you have some extra time, check out our other articles! More content on the way soon. We hope to bring more fashion content to you soon. Thank you for being patient with us!
