If you haven’t checked out part 1, it is out now! There we explored the venue (Jewel’s Catch One) and the soundcheck.
Disclaimer:
This review in the F10$$ series is written in an informal tone meant to sound conversational. It includes a DIML (“Day in My Life”) style with opinion. This review is not sponsored! Okay let’s get into the review and my experience with this ticketing!
I’ll try to be as unbiased as I can be. However, I am a BAE (Hyolyn fan)! But I know my duties as a blogger, so I will do my best! Okay. Enough disclaiming let’s get on with the concert review!
After soundcheck, the club was slowly starting to fill up. Actually, since bag check was so smooth, people were coming in left and right. The vibes were very high at this moment.
Atmosphere
Atmosphere is important when talking about these kinds of things.
The people that made it great, made it great. Especially BAE, they were vibing the whole time! The people that didn’t, they really tried the day.
There kept being some fans who kept jumping in front of us. Now look, we all want to see the Queen in the flesh. It’s natural to be excited. But it becomes so rude when you try not to make eye contact and start cutting and squeezing through. And pretend not to hear when someone calls you out. There were definitely some incredibly rude audience members, but I noticed this is common with a lot of pit standing situations.
I won’t lie, after being so dizzy and dehydrated, it was hard at first to be back energetic. Especially after grabbing a water and sitting down and trying to get back to my place. At least most people were nice especially who weren’t in trying to get to the barricade. I learned these kinds of people can be the most insufferable. But once I got out of the front and went to sit in the bar area to cool down for a few minutes, I was all good.
There was a few things to keep us entertained while Hyolyn got ready for the actual show for the night. And I think this has been the best thing I’ve seen since going to a few sound checks. OF course the DJ set which had all kinds of music. From RnB to Kpop. The DJ killed it. And then we got dance groups which literally ate so badly it was insane. They had everyone turning up. And finally, we got a singer and dancer who performed some originals and some covers. And the covers were nice because it was a whole new side of the song. I will say the combination of all of these performances was its own concert. I was entertained, but I was ready to get the concert started. Honestly, I think it was too long because I just was ready to see Hyolyn again.
People couldn’t quit bumping into people. I think it was a combination of the bar and just plain rudeness. Anyways, aside from some people cutting and bumping, I will say there were a few of us whole really brought the vibe. From the enchanted costumes to the immaculate vibes. Not flaming anyone, but the npc thing is kind of old. Especially campers who just want fancy videos, but that’s for an Uncomfy Cushion video.
After all of the performances it was finally time for the show. It started off with the very beautiful and talented dancers Whitney and Deanna with their dance solos. It was so surreal to see them irl when I have only seen them on my screens for so long.
When Hyolyn came out this time I was all too ready to turn up even more. Oh my goodness. The queen was right in front of us! I can’t
She performed classics from Sistar era, throwback Hyolyn songs, cover songs, and her newest music (at the time, it was ‘Wait’)
SETLIST (FULL):
(if there is something missing or I misspelled something, I apologize!)
1. Dally
2. Ma Boy+Touch my Body+Shake it (it was like a club remix)
3. No thanks
4. Say My Name
5. Burlesque (cover) (side note: The dancers got a solo and just *chefs kiss*)
6. Rockabye (cover) (I think this was one that was changed out sometimes in the other concert dates)
7. You know better (my first time hearing this song)
8. 9LIVES (this was also my first full listen of this one. Vocals are so powerful!)
9. Body Talk (One my personal favorites, I really wish to perform this one day)
10. Layin Low (no Jooyoung was not there)
11. Wait
12. 이게 사랑이지 뭐야 (This love) (no Paul Blanco was not there)
13. SeeSea (finally I get to witness this in person! It’s a meme that I ask for her to sing this song on live every time she is on live and it had the dance break!)
14. Waka Boom (My way ft. Young ji) (No Young Ji was not there, but we got Hyolyn rapping which…what can’t Hyolyn do?)
14 songs in total. 16 if you count each song in the medley. I really wish the medley songs were longer. I do like the medley thing Hyolyn does, but the songs are so iconic and I am greedy. Since she is such a talented performer you can’t get enough of her on stage.
I know also she had a crammed schedule with happening to jump straight on the plane to the next city. I’m happy she got to chill a tad bit out here, but I think idols really need to have more downtime before going to the next thing. Hyolyn was already exhausted and though when the show started it didn’t show much, it’s unfair that performers have to go through this. Hectic schedules lead to fatigue and she needs to rest up them vocals. As well as rest because as an all-rounder performer you have too much to give and not enough to receive back. But again, a topic for another day.
No matter what stage I have seen her on, she gives her 101%. It’s inspiring. And refreshing to see live performance ACTUALLY live.
After the show
So after the show we get the MC? We’ll say he’s the MC. So the MC comes up and tells us all to line up. And in the middle of that I guess someone brought up the ‘Hi-Wave’ and he responds obliviously “What’s a Hi-Wave”. People tell him and all we really get is a “oh”. So the Hi-Wave was completely cancelled out. And to be honest…was it necessary? No. However, since we had to pay for the tier of perks we had, I think we want what was listed. Though the price for me was reasonable for the night we had, it would have been nice to get EVERYTHING listed. It gave unorganized. like someone put the perks together just to make the list longer. And that’s a fumble many organizers end up doing. And when there’s not a lot of time left…things become well…disorganized.
To be honest it wasn’t that big of a deal for me to a point, I was just ready for everyone to just simply get in a single file line like we were taught in school. Once it was an okay line we were moving to the last part of our night. The photo opportunity! Or… well… Photo-op.
In line we met a few very sweet people and so the nerves went away. I was a bit nervous because I didn’t know what I wanted to say since it was supposed to be a quick little meet and greet. I just watched a show that truly inspired and entertained and I want to say some words, hopefully the will be words of encouragement.
As we get closer in the line we also see the dancer Deanna sitting there and many people had some great conversations with her and took some pictures. We also hear staff put out some rules we need to consider now last minute. No touching the artist-which should be common knowledge. Don’t touch anyone who didn’t give you consent. but some people need that reminder unfortunately. So no touching, and no talking. Which is absolutely wild. No talking??? When I am standing right next to someone I paid to meet. On top of that you literally took away the Hi-wave perk. I think we have some nerve telling me not to talk. And though I am not entitled to a conversation, it should be up to the artist. And again circling back to my other point, if the artist had more time out in each city…maybe, just maybe they would have an off day. Meaning, they don’t have to worry about being somewhere tomorrow so they can talk to their fans tonight.
And I understand, the line has to keep moving or it will be another hour or two and 100 people still remaining. And since there’s events happening (even on the same day too), you have to keep traffic going. And clear out the space as you are supposed to get going soon. I get it. And I understand people will try to run your ear over and take up time being selfish. So I understand the rush.
But on top of no touching and no talking, there was “have your camera open before you step up for the photoshoot”. Now that was wild. You want my phone to take these photos? And though this has happened before, I would have preferred a professional camera or someone else’s camera taking the photo. Because with the phones I had, the quality can only come out two ways: Okay or microwave quality. Luckily it came out pretty good. We’ll show photos of Diamond’s experience.
Anyways when it was my turn I had to make a decision which phone to use and then gave it to them. First of all, Hyolyn is even more stunning up close. It’s insane. Like save some genes for the rest of us okay?Hyolyn immediately complimented my outfit when I went over to her. And then she asks what poses to do. She came to slay we do a few poses as the photographer will only get you 2 of them.
Naturally, before I leave I will say something to her as she talks to all of us. Human reaction. I’m not rude. Then we talked only because she was talking. I quickly was going to tell her how much she inspires me as a performer, but I mean…how can a heartfelt conversation go quick?
I would say 30 seconds (or less) in, the staff rushes me out of there like “you can’t talk, we have to move the line”. Wild. She lets go of my arm and I just say bye, grab my phone and bag, and dip out. I wish the interaction was recorded because there was a camera there recording. I haven’t found anything online though. But I was so happy to see her seriously.
And if you are reading this Queen, Thank you. Thank you for just being you and inspiring so many artists.
Let’s get into the F10$$ scale! If you are unfamiliar with F10$$, you can find out more about it here!
F10$$:
FAN: I will always say this. Hyolyn is a top-tier performer. As I have mentioned before, she is a must see talent. And I think as a fan, this experience only made me love her more. Of course crowds can be a hit or miss, but I think overall, the night went well because we had a top tier performer in front of us and no amount of pushing to the front can distract us from her!
The DJ and the performances from the day were also so entertaining. I wish other concerts would add these elements. Especially the DJ! They had the crowd going crazy. Must I say, I enjoyed it more because the playlist was all types of music and at the end of the day, when we watched hyolyn it didn’t take away from anything.
BOSS: As a boss, I was able to plan out the day pretty well as the day went smoothly. It was pretty easy to get a lot of footage as there was no push back in allowing us to record and have fun. Unfortunately, I brought the wrong equipment (wrong phone) because all of my videos sound like it was in a cereal bowl. You will see this later.
$$$: We had platinum, so it was a little more expensive than Gold & GA. Price was 100% worth it. I just wish that they included all of our perks. None of the organization issues were Hyolyn’s fault, but it was frustrating to hear they didn’t know what the perk was and we paid for everything on that list.

ENDING THOUGHTS:
Well that was definitely a ride! I really want to hear your thoughts on this. Have you seen Hyolyn live before? Would you like to?
Make sure to support her on her newest comeback “check”
Personal opinions:
Would I go again? Of course, of course, of course! Absolutely, I mean it’s THE Hyolyn. Her talent and aura is something that cannot be replicated.
And I would love for her to come back to this venue again. Of course, I want her to have multiple locations in LA, but this intimate vibe was enough to make the night so memorable. It was also my very first time in the club and this made me want to go again!
I do hope that since Hyolyn is under new management that we get to see her more often. And I hope that the next tour will be with differemt organizers and staff (only if they haven’t changed since the past shows). Again everyone is doing their best in our work fields however, this is a different story when hard earned money is involved. We work hard to play hard. And when we do, we want all of our perks! Even something simple like a hi-wave when we are guaranteed a photo-op.
